O.118325  9 Squadron - Pilot Officer. Ronald William Betts 23 from Launceston TAS. Betts was co-pilot of one of two Bushranger gunships called in to give direct support to Australians from 3RAR. Two Australian soldiers were lying wounded between the bunkers. Betts was killed when 20 rounds of enemy fire struck the gunship forcing it to land at a near by fire support base on 20th March 1971. He was the first RAAF pilot killed in action in Vietnam. Buried Carr Villa General Cemetery Launceston TAS.
